From the artist

“Although I have been a ceramics enthusiast and collector for most of my working life, for the last 35 years I have concentrated on woodturning and sculpture. Throughout my woodworking career my pieces have in the most part been inspired by ceramic form and the discipline of throwing clay.

My first wood workshop was next door to the Leach pottery in Muchelney, Somerset, and I was constantly inspired by the contrasts between the delicate controlled making process of throwing clay, and the powerful completely unknown elements of the wood fired kilns.

I have carried this fascination with ceramics with me over the years, and recently made the decision to move away from turning wood. During the recent  lockdowns I set myself the challenge of teaching myself the practicalities and alchemy of throwing and glazing.”
